2025 Harvey Hardin Legacy Scholarship

The Hi-Lo Desert GCSA is sponsoring a scholarship award competition. This competition is to identify and recognize outstanding students who meet the requirements of the Harvey Hardin Legacy Scholarship program.

THE INTENT OF THE HARVEY HARDIN LEGACY SCHOLARSHIP IS TO: 

  • Provide financial aid to current Hi-Lo members or their children who are full-time college students, along with other part-time college students while working in the turfgrass management industry.
  • Help aid in expenses such as tuition.

APPLICATION ARE DUE ONLINE by NOVEMBER 7, 2025.

  Son or Daughter of a current Hi-Lo member who has been a member for at least one year
  Currently employed in the turf management industry and a part-time student enrolled in an accredited college level turfgrass management program.
  Currently enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited college level turfgrass management program

Applicant must be a son or daughter of a current Hi-Lo member who has been a member for at least one year.  Applicant must be currently enrolled and studying any college level educational field.  (Note:  Freshman entering college in the fall must be currently enrolled as a full-time student.)

  • Applicant MUST provide the following in their application for consideration:
    • Provide high school transcripts (incoming freshman only)
    • Proof of registration (copies of upcoming fall class schedule)
    • Submit two reference letters from a high school and/or college instructors, mentor(s), and/or coworkers
    • Submit a minimum 500-word  essay on one of the following topics:
      • Describe an experience, big or small, that shifted the way you see the world.  How did it change you and what did you learn about yourself?
      • Who has been the most influential person in your life so far, and what lessons have they taught you that you'll carry forward in your own life?
      • What's the most valuable lesson you've learned outside of school, and how will it guide your future?

Applicant must be currently employed in the turf grass management industry and a part-time student enrolled in an accredited college level turf grass management program (under 12 semester units or quarter equivalents)

  • Applicant MUST provide the following in their application for consideration:
    • Copy of most recent college transcript
    • Proof of registration (copies of upcoming fall class schedule)
    • Provide one reference letter from employer or supervisor
    • Provide one reference letter from one current college instructor
    • Copy of current resume
    • Submit a minimum 500-word essay on one of the following topics:
      • Describe a hands-on experience (internship, project or course work) that challenged you.  What did you learn about turf, about the industry, and about yourself?
      • Looking ahead, what do you see as one of the biggest opportunities or challenges in turfgrass management?  How do you hope to be part of the solution or the progress?
      • Describe a moment or project in your turfgrass studies or work that confirmed this is the field for you.  What did you learn, and why did it make you excited about your future career?
